Our knowledge of working on historic buildings, using traditional techniques and natural materials through to the use of concrete forms and current sustainable energy systems enables us to utilise and draw upon a comprehensive palette of materials and systems to acheive the most appropriate and relevant solution to a Client’s design brief.
Projects such as the new school or community building combine the use of high insulative values with the use of timber, stone and render. Materials are expressed when used in structural elements and finished form, detailing of connections and junctions between materials are always considered to ensure that sizing, spacing depth and interface are specific and correct.
Materials are naturally chosen for there durability and fitness for purpose, also for how they reflect light, feel to the touch and what they add aesthetically to a space or built form. They can reflect local customs and building building vernacular or be used to express a break from prevailing norms and conventions.
Much of the role we perform is to do with problem solving – the application of knowledge and experience in fresh and innovative ways is fundamental to the work of an Architect.
As professionals we are also trained to manage projects when they are on-site and so have an understanding of contract procedures and English Law.
This level of skill and understanding is characterised by the variety of the work we have undertaken and represents the asset that we as Architects can uniquely bring to every problem, every project.
Design solutions for a kitchen extension or making the best use of a restricted roofspace are developed from knowledge and skills gained from not only similar projects completed before but also the experience gained from designing and completing a complete portfolio of work of varying scales, costs and complexity. A comprehensive knowledge of the full building process ensures that solutions are applicable and relevant.
Our innovative and fresh approaches are apparent in the projects we have been involved with and it is variety of skills and knowledge which we offer to our Clients.
Construction projects are complex and therefore require a highly skilled and experienced team with a range of expertise. BGA are experienced in every aspect of design and construction, we can lead a building project and offer an extensive range of expertise such as an initial appraisal, building design, compliance with planning and building regulations or full project management services. Our services are carried out in accordance with an industry standard RIBA Plan of Work model. Alternatively, we can offer a customised service dependent upon clients requirements.
We aim to work to the following 4 principles:
1. Ensure that an Architect is the main point of contact for all of our Clients.
2. Strengthen existing/develop new relationships with our Clients which make the process of design and construction a rewarding experience, encouraging referrals.
3. Utilise materials that respond to the natural environment or, genus loci to reflect local heritage and also the needs of our time in terms of ecology, life span and efficiency.
4. Interpret each design problem in an inovative, fresh and contemporary manner.
